Which Unit Fits
The reactive power to correct, and whether that is a Reinigen unit at a panel or an MPTS cabinet at the service.
Sizing starts with the kVAR that sit between your power factor and the target. Reinigen corrects up to 120 kVAR per unit at one 480 V panel, and units connect in parallel. MPTS corrects 200 kVAR per H240 or 400 kVAR per H490 at the main service, and cabinets combine. The engineering report sizes the real installation from metered data; this gives you the order of magnitude and the starting point.
Your numbers
Example values. Replace them with yours.
One 480 V panel or switchboard (Reinigen) when the problem sits there; the whole facility at the main service (MPTS) when the whole service is the problem.
480 V is the standard US industrial service, and what Reinigen and MPTS are built for. A 208 or 240 V service still gets a kVAR figure, and a note.
Of the panel or service you want to correct. Use the peak; the unit has to cover it.
At the peak, if you have it.
0.98 is what both manufacturers rate their equipment to reach (Accentz: 0.98–0.99; Trans Power: up to 0.98).
The main breaker or switchboard rating. It picks the MPTS model: H240 serves services to 1,000 A, H490 to 2,000 A.

At 0.82, 480 kW carries 335 kVAR of reactive power. At 0.98 it would carry 97 kVAR, so the correction has to supply 238 kVAR. Reinigen corrects up to 120 kVAR per unit, so this takes 2 units at the panel. With one unit, power factor would reach about 0.91. At the main service, that is 1 × H490: 400 kVAR each, rated for services to 2,000 A. The engineering report sizes the installation from metered peak, not from one reading.

How this is calculated
Reactive power at a power factor is kVAR = kW × tan(acos PF). The kVAR to correct is the difference between that at your power factor and at the target. Reinigen: units = that figure ÷ 120, rounded up. MPTS: one H240 covers up to 200 kVAR on a service to 1,000 A; otherwise H490 cabinets (400 kVAR, services to 2,000 A), enough of them to cover both the kVAR and the service amps.
Assumptions
- Ratings are the manufacturers’ published figures: Reinigen 60–120 kVAR per unit, 480 V three-phase, four-wire (Accentz product label); MPTS H240 200 kVAR to 1,000 A and H490 400 kVAR to 2,000 A (Trans Power).
- Sizing uses the peak you entered; a metered peak may differ.
- Harmonics, imbalance and where the unit connects are decided in the engineering report.
